Gombe Stream National Park lies on the shore of Lake Tanganyika in far western Tanzania. It is where Jane Goodall began her famous chimpanzee research in 1960, work that changed how we see the link between humans and great apes.

Covering only about 56 square kilometers, it is one of Tanzania's smallest parks, but its steep, forested valleys are home to habituated chimpanzee groups. Trekking here feels very different from a savanna safari.
