Overview
Six days on Zanzibar lets you slow right down. You explore the old lanes of Stone Town, snorkel over coral reefs, cycle through local villages, taste your way around a spice farm and look for dolphins off Kizimkazi, while still leaving plenty of hours for the beach.
Season makes a difference. December to March is hot and humid, April to mid-June brings the long rains, July and August are dry with a steady breeze, and October to November is another good time to visit. Our Zanzibar seasons guide has more detail.

Day by Day (6 days)
STONE TOWN WALKING TOUR
Your holiday starts with a guided morning walk through historic Stone Town with Abakombe Tours. You visit the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum and the Old Fort, wander the busy market and narrow lanes, and admire the carved wooden doors, two cathedrals and many mosques.
Overnight at Coral Beach Resort, bed and breakfast.
SNORKELING DAY
Zanzibar's reefs are among the most rewarding in the region, and some stretches of the coast are still hardly explored. Colourful corals shelter countless fish and creatures, from blue-spotted rays and firefish to clownfish.
Overnight at Coral Beach Resort, bed and breakfast.
VILLAGE CYCLING TOUR
A local guide leads you by bike along quiet paths away from the tourist areas, setting the pace to suit your fitness. It is a lovely way to see everyday life on the island.
Overnight at Nungwi Inn Hotel, bed and breakfast.
SPICE FARM AND JOZANI FOREST
Today you visit the spice and fruit farms near Stone Town. Our tour goes deeper than most, covering organically grown herbs and how they are traditionally used in medicine, cosmetics and cooking. Afterwards you enjoy a generous lunch at your guide's home, tasting the spices and fruits you have just seen. On the way to your beach hotel you stop at Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the last home of the rare Zanzibar red colobus monkey, and can walk the boardwalk through the mangroves.
Overnight at Nungwi Inn Hotel, bed and breakfast.
DOLPHINS AT KIZIMKAZI
In the afternoon you visit Kizimkazi, a fishing village on the island's southern tip. Bottlenose and humpback dolphins live in these waters and are often seen after a short boat ride; with luck you can swim near them. We go in the afternoon to avoid the morning crowds of boats that disturb the dolphins.
Overnight at Tembo Hotel, bed and breakfast.
DEPARTURE FROM ZANZIBAR
Depending on your flight time, you are transferred to Zanzibar Airport. If your international flight leaves from Dar es Salaam or Nairobi, we arrange the connecting flight for you.
