Overview
Starting in Mwanza instead of Arusha puts you right next to the western Serengeti, a quieter part of the ecosystem than the busy central and northern areas. Game drives are private, and the camps are chosen for comfort as well as location, giving this route a more exclusive feel.
Five days from Mwanza lets you explore the Serengeti properly before continuing to the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Depending on the season, you may be close to the Grumeti River crossings of the migration. Contact us for current departure options.

MWANZA TO THE SERENGETI
You leave Mwanza for the Serengeti, one of the oldest ecosystems on earth, game viewing on the way to the central plains.

FULL DAY IN THE SERENGETI
Another full day on the Serengeti plains, with one of the richest mixes of wildlife on the planet. Millions of animals migrate each year between the Serengeti and Kenya's Masai Mara, and even outside the migration the plains are home to wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant, giraffe and buffalo, with lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal on the hunt.

NGORONGORO CRATER
You leave the Serengeti for the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest unbroken volcanic caldera at about 600 m deep and 19 km wide. Around 30,000 animals live inside, making it one of the best places for lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard.

LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
You drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but varied park that is two-thirds lake, backed by the Rift Valley wall, with groundwater forest, grassland, hot springs and woodland. With more than 350 bird species and tree-climbing lions, it is a real highlight. Lunch is a picnic in the park.

RETURN TO ARUSHA
After breakfast you drive back to Arusha. If arranged in advance, we can drop you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
