The 4x4 you will spend your days in, and why it matters
You spend most of each safari day in your vehicle, so it matters more than you might think. Here is what to expect and what to ask.
Most safaris use a 4x4, usually a Toyota Land Cruiser, with a pop-up or open roof. You can stand up for clear views and photos while staying safely inside.
Ask whether every guest gets a window seat. Some operators promise it and some do not, and it makes a real difference to your view.
Charging points, a cool box or fridge for drinks, and a radio so your guide can hear about sightings from other vehicles are all genuinely useful.
With a private vehicle, you decide the pace and where to stop. Shared vehicles cost less, but you travel at a pace agreed with other guests.
How old is the vehicle and how is it maintained? How many passengers per vehicle? Is a window seat guaranteed? Any good operator will answer clearly.
