How Many Days Do You Need for a Tanzania Safari?

What changes as you add days to your trip

Generally, the longer you stay the better the trip. That is not much help on its own, so here is what you can actually do with different trip lengths.

3 to 4 Days: Short but Possible

Enough for one or two parks, such as the Serengeti on its own, but with little margin for the wildlife or weather. It works if time is tight, though it is not ideal for a first safari.

5 to 7 Days: The Classic Northern Safari

Enough to enjoy Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti properly, with real time in each. Most well-balanced first safaris fall in this range.

8 to 10 Days: Time for More

You can do the full northern route at an easy pace and still finish with a few days on Zanzibar, or add a Kilimanjaro climb instead.

More Than 10 Days: Several Regions

Combine Tanzania with Kenya's Masai Mara or gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda, or simply travel slowly throughout.

Finding Your Balance

Every extra day adds cost, so the real question is how you want to balance budget, time off and depth. Tell us your limits, and we will plan a trip that makes the most of them.
