Getting ThereAbout 45 minutes by road from Arusha

Arusha National Park lies below Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest mountain. In only about 552 square kilometers it offers mountain forest, the alkaline Momella Lakes and open grassland.

Explore on Foot

This is one of the few parks in Tanzania where you can join a walking safari, led by an armed ranger. Seeing the bush on foot, at its own pace, is a completely different experience from a vehicle.

Giraffes and Colobus Monkeys

The park has one of the highest densities of giraffe in the country, and black-and-white colobus monkeys are easy to spot in the forest, so the sightings are dependable.

Climb Mount Meru

If you have a few extra days, Mount Meru is a rewarding multi-day climb with far fewer people than Kilimanjaro, and on a clear morning you can see Kilimanjaro from the top.

How to Get There

It is only about 45 minutes by road from Arusha town. Being so close, it is often overlooked, which is a good reason to go.
