The best-kept secret of Tanzania, Arusha National Park, is tucked just this side of the Kenyan border, near the bustling city of Arusha. Mount Meru, at 4566 meters, is a popular choice for mountaineers who want to avoid the well-trodden slopes of Kilimanjaro. Arusha National Park is less well-known than the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, but it’s worth visiting if you want to see a stunning landscape with a diverse range of flora and fauna — but with fewer people!
Arusha National Park contains an awe-inspiring mix of vegetation, including swamps, grasslands, and montane forest, as well as the tropical rainforest-clad mountain slopes of Mount Meru.
We leave Arusha at exactly 8:00 a.m after breakfast. for the hour-long trip to Arusha National Park. You’ll stretch your legs on an out-of-this-world walking safari with a ranger who will lead you through the rainforest to a dazzling waterfall where you’ll see black and white colobus monkeys going about their business. After a delicious lunch, you’ll board a Land Cruiser for a game drive across the park, including the Momella Lakes and the Ngurduto Crater, where you’ll likely see buffalo, waterbuck, giraffe, warthogs, zebra, and gazelle, as well as a variety of bird species.
You might get a glimpse of the elusive leopard or elephant if you’re lucky. Remember to bring your camera! You’ll be driven back to Moshi after the drive.
