Safaris Don't Have to Be Luxury-Priced

Some Tanzania safaris cost tens of thousands, but that is far from the only option. With smart choices about timing, group size and accommodation, you can have a great safari on a modest budget without compromising safety or guiding.

Go in the Green Season

Prices at most camps and lodges drop noticeably between November and May. You may get afternoon rain and the animals are a little more spread out, but the calving season from January to March is superb for wildlife and costs less.

Share a Vehicle

Joining a small group instead of booking a private vehicle is the biggest way to save, because the vehicle, fuel and guide are shared. Ask us about shared departures for your dates.

Keep the Route Focused

Trying to see every park adds travel days and cost without always improving what you see. A tighter route, such as Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater without the long drive into the Serengeti, can still make an excellent six-day safari for less.

Where Not to Save
